SOUTH WALTON

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

2020 BCC CandiDATE SURVEY

QUESTION #13:

Do you have professional skills or experiences that you feel would benefit you in serving on the BCC? If so, what are they?

Philip Cryar - District 1 - Republican

Yes, there have been many life experiences that I have overcome and learned from that I feel have added to my qualifications as a commissioner. Additionally, I have completed numerous large jobs around the county with my marine construction business, and those jobs have given me an extensive knowledge of the places in our community, the citizens of our community, and the needs of our community.

William "Boots" McCormick - District 1 - Republican

I have a strong sense of fair play and following the rules. Thirty years of law enforcement has trained me to make reasonable decisions. Sometimes my decisions did not make me popular. I have served as an elected official an through that service I received a lot of in house training and just pure old fashion on the job training. At the city level, I have had to deal with and make decisions along the lines of issues the county is facing, just on a smaller scale. I think this above all else puts me in a position to hit the ground running a little faster than the other candidates.

Mike Barker - District 3 - Republican

I have held numerous management and leadership positions in Walton County, and have years of Walton County Government experience spanning over the past 38 years. I have written and managed numerous Walton County budgets, as well as budgets for State of Florida and the Federal Government. I have written and managed numerous grants for Walton County and brought in millions of dollars to Walton County for various public projects. I was recognized in the past by the Florida Association of Counties as being one of the most successful Grant Writers in the State of Florida. I have owned, operated and managed numerous small businesses in Walton County. I have volunteered on and for numerous public service Boards and committees in Walton County. I have planned, coordinated and led response and recovery operations for numerous disaster and emergency situations, in Walton County. I implemented Walton County's first 911 and county wide addressing system. I was Walton County's first Emergency Management Director, and held that position twice over the past 31 years.

Dr. Carolynn Zonia - District 5 - Democrat

As an Emergency Physician, I have the knowledge, the background and the history of working to improve health and quality of life. I will be a new voice and new vision with new Leadership for the Board. Our County Board has been dominated by former police and small business owners. They have a record of consistently voting against the things that would protect our water, limit development, and improve quality of life. I appreciate the work that they have done, but I think we need to add someone different to the Board. I’m asking for your vote on November 3rd. Thank you!
