Overview
A group of property owners are making a second attempt to get a new beach access approved through Topsail Preserve. The trail head is proposed to be located on 30A within or near the Cypress Dunes community near the western end of 30A. The Board of County Commissioners recently voted 4 - 1 to sign a resolution of support for the consideration of the access; however, it must be considered by the State to gain approval.
SWCC opposes this proposal because:
- Protecting park resources should have priority over the convenience of one subdivision (Cypress Dunes).
- An access to the beach at Topsail that is not managed by the State Parks Department would not be acceptable.
- There is already a beach access within the park with a significant amount of parking and a tram to the beach provided. This access is quickly accessible from the communities in the area.
