SWCC Supports Purchase of Golf Garden Property for a Community Park

Proposed purchase of the Golf Garden property in Miramar Beach is on the 08/13 BCC agenda. Please email the BCC Commissioners and participate in the meeting in support of this important issue with significant benefits to Miramar Beach residents and all South Walton.

The property is located on Hwy 98 and comprises 25 acres of beautifully landscaped open space. The exact use has not been determined, but there are many options. There has been some discussion about building a public swimming pool. South Walton currently has no public swimming pool.

Miramar Beach residents have organized a petition which already has over 800 signatures. You can participate by going to http://chng.it/WPj6gRkT

Preserve and enhance scarce available open land for the benefit of all

  • Community enhancements add alternatives to the beach with public spaces to pursue leisure activities safely.

  • Preservation of green space protects the natural environment and helps avoid additional storm water drainage issues.

  • Using available land for a public park rather than residential development limits the strain on community infrastructure resources including schools.

Prevent increases in traffic on crowded neighborhood roads and highways

    • Do everything it takes to keep our roads and families safe from even more vehicle traffic.

    • Curtail the possibility of more high-density development in 32550.  The multiple new hotels are enough.  Residential development, especially, brings excessive numbers of additional vehicles into our neighborhoods and into the larger community – permanently.
